Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal

Our family loves to study history, and our state history is a favorite topic. We enjoy taking a unit study approach to our state’s history with the help of two products from Knowledge Box Central: the Nebraska State History Lapbook and the Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal. Both products use the same study guide, but are designed for two different age groups. This makes it more convenient for the whole family to study state history together.  A lapbook and lapbook journal for each of the 50 states is available from Knowledge Box Central. The Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal is a perfect fit for my daughter, age thirteen at the time of our study.

The Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal, intended for use by students in grades 6-12, includes the following components:

  • a materials list
  • a detailed study guide packed full of information about Nebraska
  • lapbook pieces
  • lapbook base pages
  • journal pages

The journal pages in the Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal are notebooking pages. Students record their information directly onto the pages, which can be printed on plain white copy paper. A small selection of lapbook pieces is also included. Students use a 3-ring binder to hold all of their journal pages, as well as lapbook base pages that are copied onto 8 1/2 x 11 inch card stock.  I would suggest investing in a three hole punch in order to use these pages, as students will need to punch several pages of heavy card stock.

Format of Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal

The Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal is available in three different formats. I choose to use the e-book format because it allows me to print as many copies as I need for our family. You can choose to purchase the PDF file on a CD, and an already printed version is also available. Because we use the e-book format, some time is required ahead of time for printing and organizing. The Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal prints mostly in black and white, which is more economical than printing a large amount of colored pages.

Other than a few pamphlets that can be ordered from the tourism department of your state, the comprehensive study guide includes all of the information you will need to complete the study. If you do not purchase the printed version of the study, you will also need copy paper and card stock. The lapbook base pages work the same way as folders do in a regular lapbook, but can be punched and stored in the 3-ring binder with the journal pages. This makes organization easier and it is handier to have the lapbook pieces on regular size pages rather than folders.

If you are looking for a creative alternative to workbooks and worksheets, the Nebraska State History Lapbook Journal offers hands-on aspects of lapbooking without all of time required for a full lapbook.
